Does your electrified village need a microgrid?
We visit Jharkhand, India, to find out why underprivileged farming communities are buying extra power even though they have electricity in their homes.
The extra power is being supplied by a microgrid (def: a standalone energy solution). This is an unusual situation because microgrids are meant for places where the main grid cannot reach.
This is the first video in a series about understanding microgrids in emerging economies. It features Mlinda, a social enterprise deeply engaged in understanding the needs of the community and setting up microgrids in this area.
This video has been made by New Ventures Asia and the Miller Center for social entrepreneurship, under the Energy Access Investment Readiness Program, supported by USAID
