AVANI BIOENERGY PRIVATE LIMITED (AVANI)
Avani generates energy using pine needles. The energy generated is sold to local power utilities, through a 20-year Power Purchase Agreement. Local women and men collect the pine needles and are remunerated with cash and cooking charcoal. Removing the pine needle prevents forest fires and protects biodiversity in the Himalayan eco-system.
Achieved
As on date, Avani has installed and is successfully operating a total capacity of 116 kW systems. The power plants also supply low cost cooking charcoal and energy to over 100 households. Livelihood for 100 families is created, restoring 60 hectares of forest land and reducing 700 tons of carbon emissions in a year.
Growth Plan
Avani aims to set up a total capacity of 2.5 MW by 2020. Village level entrepreneurs will set up and operate the power stations. This will restore 2500 hectares of forest land, create 2500 rural jobs and reduce 95,000 tons of carbon emissions per year.
